Tesla stopped selling it in 2012.</p><p>Musk unveiled a prototype of its successor in 2017 and said it would enter production in 2020. The automaker promised an electric sports car that sprinted to 60 MPH in just 1.9 seconds, a top speed of around 250 MPH, and more than 600 miles in range.</p><p>Tesla began accepting reservations requiring deposits of $50,000 to $250,000, but the company has repeatedly missed its targets for the car. Musk thanked its "long-suffering" deposit holders on a 2024 earnings call.</p><p>Much of the delay has been tied to Tesla's shift in focus, away from traditional car sales and toward more concentration on autonomy and AI.
